Ghanaian filmmaker, Socrate Safo, has talked about what is harming the Ghana movie industry.

He mentioned what caused the state of the Ghanaian movie industry in a recent interview.

Socrate, the chairman of the Ghana Classification Board, stated that ignorance and the lack of education contributed to the state of the country’s movie industry.

He said many people ventured into the movie industry with so much passion without receiving any proper orientation.

The popular Ghanaian filmmaker emphasised that the lack of structured guidance and education affected the industry.

Since most individuals who entered the industry were not oriented, Socrate posited they did not know the realities of the movie industry.

“It’s not growing as it’s supposed to be; it’s still facing challenges. From what I have seen, it started with ignorance. We did a whole lot of things out of ignorance, and it gave us challenges. It brought us on our knees.

“We didn’t understand the industry; most of us came in without the proper orientation. We didn’t receive the orientation about the industry; we entered out of passion.

“You had the talent, but nobody sat you down to give you that orientation. ‘We do this because of ABCD; we don’t do this because of ABCD’ – you didn’t get that. Nobody ever did,” Socrate Safo averred in an interview on 3FM.
