Ghanaian socialite cum singer, Mona Faiz Montrage, popularly known as Hajia4Real, or Mona 4Reall, has been given one year, one-day jail term in the United States of America.
She has been standing trial over her involvement in a $2 million dollars romance scam for some time now.
Following court appearances, she pleaded guilty.
This was after she was arrested in the United Kingdom on November 11, 2022, when she was participating in the Ghana Music Awards UK.
The 32-year-old Ghanaian socialite was extradited to the United States of America in May 2023 to face prosecution following her arrest.
She was finally penalized a few days ago.
Inner City Press reported that the prosecution sought a 37-month sentence for Mona Faiz Montrage but the judge chose to be lenient.
“I sentence Ms Montrage to one year and one day in prison, the extra day to allow “good time”, the judge was reported to have said.
“We propose she be allowed to fly back to Ghana as soon as she is released, with no ICE detention,” Defense stated.
Many Ghanaian social media users have reacted to her jail term. Some of them argued that it was not a stiffer punishment.
Although she was known in Ghana, her popularity shot up after she released a couple of songs.
